Get to a Health Fair for Free Preventive Care

Published on August 28, 2019

Active and retired participants and dependents are invited to attend regional health fairs to receive valuable preventive health services at no cost.

Held on Saturday mornings, these health fairs are a “one-stop shop” for preventive care, allowing many plan members to take care of important healthcare needs without taking time off work for a doctor’s appointment. The fairs are sponsored by the Pacific Health Coalition, a group of 46 independent health plans which includes the Carpenters Health and Security Plan of Western Washington.

Eligible plan members age 18 and older can receive up to four health screenings plus a flu shot by attending a health fair. There is no deductible, coinsurance or copay for these services. The Carpenters Health and Security Plan pays 100% of the cost. Test results will be mailed to the plan member.

  1. Chemistry/hematology profile: Measures kidney function, liver enzymes, and electrolyte imbalance. It’s also a reliable test for diabetes and coronary heart disease.
  2. Thyroid screening: Measures the health of the gland that regulates the way your body uses energy.
  3. Vitamin D test: Commonly used to screen for bone disorders.
  4. Prostate disease screen: Men over the age of 40 will receive a blood test to screen for prostate cancer. The only poke is a needle in the arm for the blood draw.

A small sample of blood must be drawn for screenings. Due to high demand, you are required to pre-register online and select a time slot for your blood draw. This will shorten your wait time. Fasting and non-fasting screenings will be offered at some locations. If you prefer a non-fasting blood draw, please schedule your appointment later in the morning to accommodate attendees who have been fasting for 10 to 12 hours.

Pre-registration is not required for a free flu shot, which is available to eligible individuals 9 and older. The quadrivalent vaccine does not cause influenza illness. A high-dose vaccine is not available.

Event locations, dates, and hours are listed below. Please note: Registration closes on the Sunday prior to each event.
